After learning about science crystals, I fell in love with collecting rare and beautiful science products. From the chemistry labs at the university and from the circle of fellow scientific crystal enthusiasts, I collected more and more fascinating and unique scientific crystals. CE:ND:YAG
Ce:Nd:YAG, also known as amber-gold laser garnet, has a high refractive index of YAG of 1.83, a hardness of 8.5, a melting point of 1970°C, and a density of 4.55 g/cm3. Ce:Nd:YAG is used in a wide range of applications such as small laser rangefinders and medical lasers. Ce brings a sparkling yellow colour to the YAG, while Nd gives it a slightly lighter violet colour. Together, they create a fascinating yellow-amber hue that shifts between orange and yellow depending on the light source, resulting in a glowing jewel-like effect, like translucent gold or a gentle sun, which is extremely attractive.

Nd:YAG is the “king of laser crystals” and also a very suitable material for gemstones. With a hardness of 8.5, she is very good for faceting and is not easily scratched in everyday life. With a density of 4.56 g/cm3, Nd:YAG shimmers with a lavender shimmer that resembles the water lilies in Monet’s paintings, and the gemstone refracts continuously under natural light, a feast of flowing colours. At the same time, the laser light emitted by Nd:YAG is used to detect the distance between the Earth and the Moon, which is the highest precision in Earth-Moon measurements.
